Okay, today I picked up some 'Granny Grating', or plastic canvas as well as some balsa strips from the local craft store. Both less than 60 cents USD a piece. I'll be cutting this stuff down (see upper right corner of image) to be used as my balcony railings.

So, let me be up front - I have no idea what I'm doing. Just a rough idea, enough to buy two different sizes of balsa strips, the thin one and the square one for the uprights, and that was it. You can see by the willy-nilly way the railings are put together that I was just pretty much tackling the problem head on. The good news? It went together rather painlessly! All I used was SUper Tacky White Glue, and working with the balsa was fabulous. Now, granted, I spent the afternoon doing only two porches, but I've got the hang of it now, and I'll be looking to finish the other side tomorrow so I can get on to the roof details, etc. It is at this point that I've decided that I'm going for 75% accuracy as I've already noticed my guesstimate proportions are off. Best way to 'win' is to keep changing the rules so you're always winning! Ah.... I love this hobby.
