| Colonel Copper's Dig |
| Famous British archeologist Colonel Copper
has enlisted the protection of an old friend from the academy Colonel Long
to provide a show of force with a squad of British infantry and gun crew at his remote dig site. A squad of US Marines and a machinegun with crew have recently arrived to transport a collection of ancient pots to a local port and finally on to America. Facing south: The British and American camps at rest in the early morning hours. The morning watch spots the approaching arab horde and gives the call of alarm!
Facing southwest: The arabs wait for the signal. Facing north: The native commander gives the sign and with a war
cry and the mass of natives surges forward! Facing south: The British quickly fall into a protective perimeter
around the archeologist and his finds. Facing south: The Americans scramble into an outer works of hasty
rail fences and behind the earth mounds from the dig pits. The machinegun Facing north: The native cavalry quickly covers ground at an alarming
rate suffering many casualties in front of the British gun at left. Facing north: A second blast of the gun kills or dismounts all
the native on one wing of the attack! British riflemen at right add to
the destruction. Facing northeast: The survivors of the native right cavalry wing
in front of the British gun. Facing south: The British gun lobs several shots towards the dismounted
native spears as well which fall way short hurting none as they run
Facing west: The Marines brace for the cavalry while the Navy
machinegun crew begins to chop down the enemy cavalry approaching from
the flank! Facing north: The Colonel Copper at left watches Colonel Long
at second from right as the British gun and rifles in the background bring
battle to Facing south: A British Sergeant gives a hearty cry to his men
to steady their nerves!
Facing east: The surviving enemy cavalry draw fire from the advancing
foot but at a great price. Facing northeast: The natives spear advance up to the enemy defenses
and a few of the survivors manage to clash with the infidels within! Facing north: The British and American camps after having destroyed
the first enemy wave to reach their lines. Notice several of the British
riflemen Facing south: The second enemy wave advances!
Facing south: The natives begin to swing to their left away from
the British gun and toward the shelter of approach to the American lines! Facing northeast: The British gun is forced to reposition the
orientation to the right in order to attempt to engage the evading enemy! Facing north: The American lines after having repulsed a second
attack on their salient. The only casualty being a second machinegun crew
man. Facing east: A surviving native spear flees in panick only to
discover himself deeper within the British defenses! Colonel Long at top
right calmly Facing west: The Marine officer orders his men to open fire as
the remainder of the natives survivors withdraw. Facing east: Native survivors at top left, Marines at center,
British at bottom right. Facing south: The surviving machinegun crew member counts himself
lucky. Facing south: Three cheers from the British lines! Facing east: "All in a day's work Colonel Copper, all in
a day's work..." |
