Raid On New Victoria

The small town of British New Victoria is garrisoned by 1 squad of British infantry and an artillery unit to protect the regional rail line, a lumber mill, and several bridges over the river Stinx. 1 squad American infantry with machinegun team and 1 squad French Legionairres with machinegun team are located nearby in order to protect their national foreign investments. Upriver is a small group of ex-Confederates who farm plantation style and can muster 1 squad of Rebel militia to assit in any local military action.

As the sleepy town wakes the deranged inventor Rojer Crakpot uncovers 1 band of spring driven mechanical dogs hidden in the train yard and starts to wind their internal spring mechanisms. From the opposite side of the town Rojer has convinced 3 bands of native spears to emerge from the edge of the public buildings intent on inflicting much mayhem. The American and French forces act on a tip and rush to the aid of the town they are unaware that they have been drawn into a trap by Rojer's 2 squads of mercenaries closing in behind them.

Facing west: The town is a sleep with the rail gun unmanned at top left and the Guiness truck at left empty of a recent delivery..
Facing south: The native spears emerge next to the church and spy the crates of Guiness. They are eager to wreck the white man's realm and they are instructed to start with that which they value most - their drink!.
Facing east: The French, unaware of the large mass of spears at top left or the mechancal monsters at top right, start to press up the road to the two main bridges of New Victoria.
Facing down : View of the unmanned rail gun at top left, the Americans at top right, and French at bottom right as would be seen from an observation balloon.
Facing south: More native spears appear on the fringe of the hill including a band that insist on being referred to as "the naval brigade". The hats of the Americans can be glimpsed at top right.
Facing southwest: As the natives rush from behind the church they are spotted by a British officer and the morning guard just out to make their rounds. Other British troops housed in the church rush to the windows as town folk hide in their buildings as the firing commences.
Facing northwest: Rojer at bottom left patiently waits for the Americans and French to show their faces on the open plains approaching the town. The French can be glimpsed at top center.
Facing north: The Americans and French advance unaware of the mechanical horror that awaits them!
Facing south : The British in the town cling to what cover they can find and begin to repel the attackers! More native spear start to infiltrate through the woods at center and over the hill. Rojer and his dogs can be seen at top right.
Facing south: The French reach the bridges spanning the river. They hear the British firing from the other side of the hill.
Facing south: The British manage to drive the natives back into the woods but with the loss of some men. The lone British officer at top left engages a native in personal combat among the crates of Guiness.
Facing southeast: The other native spear have found another way over the hill and begin to decend on their unsuspecting victims in the near buildings!
Facing east : The Rebs having finally mustered their militia and forced marched up the valley to arrive on the scene at bottom left. The Fench spot Rojer and his dogs and halt for a brief moment trying to identify the shinny objects on the road at upper right. The Americans reach the small hill at top right and begin to form a firing line on the crest.
Facing north: The French begin to deploy on the bridge as the Americans rush their machinegun towards their firing line.
Facing north: Rojer begins to pull the release pin on his first two mechanical monsters after carefully aiming them at the French! At top left the native spear can be seen cresting the hill to New Victoria.
Facing south: Back at the Guiness truck the British officer demonstrates to his native opponent the benefit of possessing a pistol and bullets - of which he promptly loans a few to his savage cousin!
Facing west: Suddenly at top left a group of well armed men appear at begin to advance on and fire at the Americans from behind! The Rebs at top right immediately realize that the fellows are not friendly and begin to deploy on line through the wheat field. The Americans and French stand stunned as Rojer releases his first two dogs which 'bark' with a mechanical squeek as their razor sharp raws chomp while they advance at a tremendous pace at bottom!
Facing northwest: The armed mercenaries begin to exchange shots with the Rebs and the fire is inaccurate but heavy!
Facing west: The native spear attack the buildings of the town only to discover that there are British troops garrisoned with each home! The fighting is fast and furious complete with the smashing of windows and chairs! Soon the savage manage to break into one home and it is a fury of fists and spears!
Facing south: A second group of mercenaries emerges in the woods near the French left flank as the Legionaires' bullets bounce off the metalic hide of the approaching attack dogs! The French machinegun at right opens fire on the mercenaries at top right causing a few casualties and driving them to cover on the bridge.
Facing southwest: As the fighting on and around the homes intensifies the British troops in the church begin to emerge to lend a helping hand. Inside the homes natives and British wrestle for domination!
Facing west: The Americans do what they do best - shoot first and figure out what is going on later! They manage to drop one of the spring driven monsters with well aimed head shots. The French fire more volleys but fail to penetrate the metalic hide of their attackers. The French leader is attacked by one of the beast on the bridge - as soon as the mechanical dog comes into contact additional springs cause the beast to bristle hundreds of sharp edges and it becomes a wild bouncing ball of blades! Worse, two more of the creatures are approaching fast! The mercenaries at right decide to skip the firing and move across the river at bottom to raid the town. The French machinegun at right begins to pour accurate fire on the mercenaries still left on the bridge at top left who are now few in number. The Rebs at top right lend a helping rifle bullet.
Facing south: The Americans take a few casualties from the mercenaries to their rear and turn their machinegun to assist the French team in wiping out this threat to their rear.
Facing south: The Rebs see the effects of the combined machinegun fire and decide to support the French on the bridge at left.
Facing east: Enemies at such close quarters!
Facing west: As the Americans at top left continue to fire on the unleashed mechanical monsters Rojer at bottom prepares two more for delivery.
Facing south: The French commander is felled by the mechanical beast on the bridge! His attacker continues to bounce wildly and randomly sets upon the infantry who cower in surprise on the bridge at right. The Americans are surprised as well to witness one of the mechanical monsters bounce off the bridge railing and go crashing back into another of Rojer's creations. They begin to shred each other to pieces and one falls apart within seconds!
Facing southwest: Three native warriors emerge from wiping out one of the homes and its defenders to spy the British officer hiding among the Guiness creates. They attack!
Facing west: British troops rush from the church yard to assist but it may be too late!
Facing south: At top left Rojer has unleashed the last of his creations. He calmly smokes his pipe and pulls a mean looking pistol from his jacket pocket. At top the American machinegun team had moved forward only to become a victim to one of the mechanical mutts! The gun lays quiet and the crew is scattered or wounded. On the bridges the Rebs at center begin to push across only to be set upon by the wild bladed bounding dogs. The scattered French at right regroup and attempt to eliminate their lone metal opponent with massed rifle fire. For what ever reason their repeated volleys have no effect. At bottom left the last of the mercenaries have almost succeeded in crossing the river and a few begin to climb to the crest for a better view of their final destination.
Facing east: Back at the Guiness truck the British officer goes down to the trio of spears who are in turn are swept away by the advancing British.
Facing west: Rojer at bottom left revels in the destruction his creations have wrought on his enemies! The Americans and Rebs both take careful aim and begin to fire on the beasts with deadly precision.
Facing south: The Americans at top left advance leaving a crew to reclaim the machinegun. The rest charge with the Rebs against the lone Rojer who defiantly fires his pistol into the advancing American infantry who scatter at this unexpected close attack! The French at left at set upon by the last remaining attack dog as the remainder of the mercenaries attempts to get out of the open of the river at bottom.
Facing southeast: The French scatter AGAIN as their melee with the blade covered monster fails once more at bottom! The scattered Americans at top cooly take careful aim at Rojer who seems unconcerned until he notices the full squad of Rebs who have formed up behind him at top left!
Facing west: Rojer tosses his pistol onto the ground and simply smiles knowing it took some thirty armed men with machineguns to take him captive. He already knows how to improve his inventions and begins to redesign his beasts in his mind. The Americans and Rebs both glance over and roll thir eyes at the cursing French as they begin to club the remaining dog who has fallen still and only slightly shudders now, its drive spring having finally run out.
Facing west: With significant casualties the British post perimeter guards and the Americans, French and Rebs with the prisioner enter the town to take stock of the raid. The remaining mercenaries at top right decide that now is not a good time to press a counter attack and they fade back whenc they came. New Victoria still stands!
