Mauling the Mullah
An Arab Mullah has consolidated 9 small bands of Arab foot and 2 bands of Arab cavalry and started to raid the local region. American forces have sent 3 squads of US Marines, 3 squads of US Sailors, a 3" artillery gun with crew, and a machine gun team on a punative mission to deal with this new Arab threat.
Facing east: The Mullah (on camel) is inside his strong hold located in the top left hand corner of the view and is directly surrounded by four small bands of faithful followers. In the bottom left hand corner the Arab cavalry can be seen preparing to ride out across the bridge over the river ( at center left) and meet the approaching threat. On the closest hill to the village a band of Arabs can be seen at center right waiting in ambush for the attackers. The US Marines can be seen in the upper right hand corner of the view with the sailors, 3" gun, and machine gun crew in the bottom right hand corner.
Facing west: The Arabs open the fight with the first shots hitting one of the artillery crew. The Marines and sailors immediately open fire and sweep away the defenders before advancing over the first hill and into the narrow valley at center..
Facing west: The Arab cavalry at top left hear the shots fired and begin to move through the village and out over the bridge to ride down the attackers. The Mullah at bottom right with flag begins to mass his defenders in the buildings closest to the heavily wooded jungle in anticipation of the advance of the Americans.
Facing south: The Americans can barely be seen in the top center and top right portions of the view. At center right the first band of Arab cavalry can be seen already across the bridge and sheltered from the Americans by the closest hill. The second band of Arab cavalry can be seen between the buildings of the town as they prepare to follow their brethren out into battle. You can see the weight of Arab foot moving intot he buildings facing the river.
Facing north-northwest: The Marines and sailors are caught off guard by the sudden rush of dozens of Arab cavalry that suddenly rush them from the hill slopes to their front. The Americans quickly regain their composure and pour a hevy fire into the attackers but a sizeable number of the Arab attackers pour through the center of the American line and emgulf the artillery and machine gun crews.
Facing west: The artillery and machine gun crews take heavy casualties from the Arab blades before the nearest squad of Marines can charge in to dispatch the enemy. The Marines at left form an over watch while the sailors in the background at top center and top right advance to safety at the base of the hills. The remaining Marines off view at bottom continue to advance to a dry stream bed and await the outcome of the fighting which is swift and decisively against the Arabs.
Facing east: The badly mauled gun crews are replentished by a squad of sailors who advance the 3" gun to the crest and the machine gun to the base of the hill at center overlooking the bridge to the village. The remaining sailors at bottom right scramble to advance on the jungle at bottom left. A squad of Marines provides close support on the hill top at center as at center left and center top Marines can be seen closing with the densely jungled river that is the final obstacle between them and their objective. At left and top left Arab foot can be seen filling in every available spot along the walls and buildings facing the river.
Facing west: The machine gun and 3" gun at top left begin to fire into the village causing several casualties while the Marines at bottom form into battle lines and begin to penetrate the dense jungle of the river. As the Marines emerge on the far side the Arab foot at the walls an adjacent buildings open fire. There is a tense moment as a battle of attrition begins to whittle down both forces. Suddenly there is a single deadly volley from the Arabs that drops an entire Marine squad. The surviving Marines decide to storm the building which they briefly contest from the Arabs only to again take severe casualties and be driven back to the jungle. The sailors off view at center top witness the repulse of the three Marine squads and wisely decide not to attempt such an exploit by themselves.

Result:
The Arab raiders have been bloodied but remain defiant and active. The Marines and sailors withdraw their gun crews and limp back to their supply base to report on the failure of their attempt to maul the Mullah.
