Oasis of Death

A slaver, 2 gangs of minions, and a machine gun team are holed up in the middle of the badlands near an oasis as a punative column of 3 French infantry and an 3" gun approach.

Facing east-northeast: The Slaver can be seen in the upper left hand corner dressed in blue with several arab minions at his feet. To the upper right the machine gun team can just be made out against the roof of the building where they wait for the French to emerge from behind the cover of the oasis. At the edge of the trees and brush to the top right you can see a gang of mercenaries with rifles at the ready. From center to lower right along the broken ground the remainder of the arab minions are dispersed in ambush. At bottom the French emerge from the sand dunes.
Facing east-northeast: Similar to shot above.
Facing west-northwest: Reverse view of above. The white and blue of the French can be seen at top. There is a better view of the machine gun team on the roof top at center bottom and the slaver at bottom right with arab riflemen.
Facing west: A better view of the mercenaries in the oasis and at the edge of the rough ground at center. The smile on the face of the French commander at top will soon disappear.
Facing north: Reverse of above. The machine gun crew decides to get off of the roof and place the machine gun in front of the building at right. Slaver can be seen at center top and the mercenaries can be seen peeking out of the oasis at bottom left.
Facing west: The desert heat blurs the image of the French as they march directly into the sights of the arabs waiting in ambush.
Facing east-northeast: There is a sudden crash of rifle fire - it is fairly inaccurate - but the one target that did get hit was the French Commander at center bottom! ( NOTE: CO's base is facing the camera - the arabs rolled 1 hit on their first volley and I mixed in the artillery unit (6), horses (4), infantry (11), and the Commander ( plus his horse) into the casualty bowl and came out with the French CO!) Shortyly after this picture was taken EVERY French unit failed their morale checks and routed back off the board! This was not a good day for the French...
Facing north: After several attempts to get their men moving the French manage to begin returning fire causing several arab casualties in the broken ground at center. Seeing his men begining to waiver the slaver rushed his reserve arabs forward at center top and plugged the gap while raking an advancing unit of the enemy on the French left. One of the casualties of the earlier gain can be seen at top left.
Facing north: The fighting is severe and continues for another brief moment. The French however cannot gain a foothold into the broken ground and are forced to abandon their gun and fall back to the safety of the sand dunes. The arab forces continue to harass the French until they have been driven from the area. The machine gun team begins to move the back to the roof now that the enemy had been driven away without a shot being fired by them!

Result:
After their commander fell and all of their units broke to run the french never had any real chance. Due to some pretty incredible bad luck the sand became a killing ground and the only thing certain for the French was death.

Slavers - Major Victory - WINNER!
French - Major Defeat
