Raid on Al-Hadrial

An mad scientist has established himself as a pirate raider with a gun sloop vessel, 24 pdr shore gun, 4 pdr mountain howitzer, and half a dozen bands of raiders and occupies a formidable fortress on an ocean cove.

The French decide to send a gun frigate with two 12 pdrs and two squads of French Legionairres to cooperate with the Amreicans who have dispatched a squad of U.S. Marines aboard a submarine ( yes, it is yellow ).

Facing north-northeast: American submarine surfaces just off shore of Arab gun battery as French gun frigate casts off two steam launches full of Legionairres while her crew prepare to man the guns on her deck. The raid has begun!
Facing north: At the top left the French gun frigate scurrying with crew on deck can be seen towing alongside two steam launches full of Legionaires while just above the group of palms on the shore an American yellow submarine has already surfaced and disembarked a squad of US Marines. Amidst the palms the Arab shore gun crew can be seen in complete shock at the naval armada that has suddenly appeared in their sights and far too close for comfort. To the top right the Arab raiding vessel can be seen tied to the pier with a few crew members taking up sniping positions on the main deck and on shore. In the bottom left portion of the view the fortress walls can alive with the call to arms and the mountain howitzer is prepared in the central tower. In the town Arab raiders awake from their recent capture of a Guiness truck and driver and scramble to grab their weapons as they prepare for combat.
Facing south-east: The Marines prepare to leave the submarine and rush ashore to overwhelm the Arab gun and crew before they can fire to sink the invading vessels. The fortress can be seen at right, the town top center, and the Arab raiding vessel at top left. The French are just out of view to the left.
Facing south: A shaky and blured view of the shore at bottom, with protective cove allowing only two easy accesses to the fortress and town beyond. At the bottom right the US Marines have overrun the gun and eliminated almost all the Arab gunners in hand to hand combat.
Facing south: Same view as above only a little less fuzzy and showing the ships in relation to land. The French gun frigate began sweeping the Arab raiding vessel clean of Arab gunmen and then lobbed shell after shell at the fortress with minimal success. The mountain howitzer attempted to return fire with little effect.
Facing north-west: Shortly after being cut loose the French steam launches begin to take mass rifle fire and several Legionaires are killed. A handful more are shattered and drown when the mountain howitzer scores a direct hit sinking the second launch. The gun crews on the French frigate manage to silence the mountain howitzer and clear the Arab tower as well s most of the facing fortress walls. The French survivors drift into the shore or paddle their way to the shallows before clinging to the relative safety of the cove walls.
Facing south-east: A view of the Arabs on the fortress walls from the shore gun position cleared by the US Marines. Not long after this picture was taken the Marines rushed the walls and lost their officer which resulted in the squad pinned against the fortress and shooting anything that moved. As the fighting dragged on it became a battle of attrition and the US Marines were wiped out to a man taking many of the enemy with them.

Result:
The French found themselves stuck on the beach with little hope of making any progress inland. The French frigate could control the fortress walls and cove, but not the lower levels or the town which was out of view. The American submarine observed the Marines demise at the base of the fortress wall and submerged out to sea. As darkness fell the Legionairres climbed back aboard their remaining steam launch and left the bloodied but victorious Arabs to lick their wounds and raid another day. The Guiness truck and driver were never seen again.
